On a Thursday afternoon back in December, I sent Fleur a text telling her that Tesla guitarist Dave Rude was going to play at the Independent on the following Sunday. At the time, we were only going to see Dave Rude’s band play. I was not familiar with the band Walking Papers, until I looked them up on YouTube. When I found out that Duff was playing with Walking Papers, I thought, “Oh, cool! This should be a good show.” I was not disappointed. I was blown away at how great Walking Papers sounded. I became a fan after the first song, and no, it had nothing to do with Duff McKagan playing bass. Well, OK, maybe it does just a little bit.
Check out the slideshow, and you’ll see some familiar faces like Mike Dirnt of Green Day. I didn’t realize he was there, until I heard his voice in the crowd. The last time I saw him was a couple of years ago at Rudy’s Can’t Fail Cafe in Emeryville. It was great to catch up. You can read his interview here.
You might spot some other familiar faces, too!
(Did you spot Billy Rowe? You can read the interview with him here.)
Coming tomorrow… spandexpanda and Fleur’s review of the Walking Papers debut album … welcome to the Seattle blues
