From now until the end of time (or until too many people die for us to continue) DGT&G will be interviewing rock ‘n’ roll artists — famous, not-famous, and the vast numbers in between — and asking each the same five questions. Over time, their answers will become a repository of the heart of why people make rock music. Read on and enjoy…
The ratio of rockers to fans was higher than usual at The Independent in San Francisco a couple of Sundays ago, as the (fantastic!) Walking Papers show — with the Dave Rude Band opening — drew out local musicians. Among those lingering and chatting with members of both bands and the audience after the show was Billy Rowe, vocalist and rhythm guitarist for local hard rock band Jetboy and owner of custom-built guitar store Rock n Roll Relics. Thank you, Billy, for so good-naturedly agreeing to answer the Heart of Rock questions!
DGT&G: Why do you play rock music?
Billy Rowe: Why do I play rock music? Because I love rock and roll. [Laughs]
DGT&G: What else could you see yourself doing?
BR: What else do I see myself doing? Well, I have a guitar business. I couldn’t see myself doing it before, but I can now because I’m doing it.
DGT&G: Do you have any regrets about taking this path?
BR: No. No regrets.
DGT&G: What is your favorite part about creating and playing rock music?
BR: The writing. I like it all. The writing, recording, and playing live. Playing live is the best. The live energy.
DGT&G: Who would be in your dream rock band?
BR: Who would be in my dream rock band? Dead or alive? Bon Scott. Gonna build the band? John Bonham, Dave Grohl, Phil Lynott. Bass, drums, singer … so another guitar player. That’s a tough one. Hmm. I’ll go with Joe Perry. That’s a cool band.
DGT&G: I’d go see that band. Would you be in it?
BR: Yeah, I’ll be in it. If I wasn’t in it … I’ll manage the band. [Laughs]
